After two days of hard work at their winter training camp, Arnautovic, Petersen & Co will play their first test match of the new year on Monday 7 January 2013. Head coach Thomas Schaaf's team will take on Turkish top flight side Trabzonspor at 8 p.m.

The match in the semi-finals of the Tuttur Cup will be the first showdown between the teams in almost exactly two years. During the 2010-11 winter preparations, SV Werder and Trabzonspor played to a 1-1 draw at the same stadium as the match on Monday, the Mardan Palace Stadium in Kundur. The Green-Whites do not have good memories of the matchup before that as Werder lost 3-1 during an earlier winter training camp.

Trabzonspor won six Turkish titles between 1976 and 1984, but the fans have not celebrated a championship since then. The waiting nearly ended two seasons ago but they lost the title to Fenerbahce because their goal difference was four goals worse.

The Red-Blues are currently seventh on the standings in Turkey after 17 match days. The team also has a former Bundesliga player among their ranks in Halil Altintop.
