Thomas Schaaf's Werder Bremen play their last test before their first competitive match of the new season against Preußen Münster in the German DFB Cup on Tuesday 14 August 2012 against Danish top flight side Odense BK. Kick-off of the match at Egsfield Ground in Horne is at 6 p.m. (live ticker on WERDER.DE starting at 5:45 p.m.). A Danish player from 10th-placed finishers last season in the Danish Superliga has transferred to the Weser as Ole Björnmose scored 21 goals in 137 matches for the Green-Whites from 1966 to 1971 and later played for Hamburg. One of Odense's more well-known players for German fans was former Bundesliga goalkeeper Stefan Wessels, who was on contract with the team until the end of last season and then retired.

Stefan Wessels played one and half years in goal for Odense BK.

Interestingly, football was not even part of the Danish club when it was founded as the Odense cricket club on 21 July 1887. Cricket was the only sport that was played back then. Football and tennis joined two years later and the footballers' first success came in 1916 by winning the local championship. The second title followed in 1982 and the cup crown a year later. And Odense captured their third championship in 1989.

As opposed to the Bundesliga, the Danish league has already started the season. And Poul Hansen's team is third on the table with 10 points after five match days. Last Friday, Odense beat FC Midtjylland 2-1 at home at TRE-FOR Park. A Danish team and the Green-Whites last played before the 2007-08 season with a 1-1 draw against Esbjerg BK in Horne.
