The newly-crowned LIGA total! Cup winners Werder Bremen won their third-to-last test match before the start of the season at Preußen Münster with a 4-1 victory over FC Winterthur. Mehmet Ekici (11th), Johannes Wurtz (24th/72nd) and Denni Avdic (73rd) scored for Werder while Winterthur hit their only goal in the 71st minute through Patrick Alphonse Bengondo.
"It was a good game for long stretches. We played a lot of players today who had not gotten much playing time until now. That must be considered. But there was tempo in our game. We controlled the match over the entire game," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs after the match.
Just like in both games from last weekend, head coach Thomas Schaaf changed up his starting line-up a lot with goalkeeper Richard Strebinger behind a back four of Felix Kroos, Olympics returnee Francois Affolter, Assani Lukimya and Aleksandar Ignjovski. The midfield consisted of Kevin de Bruyne, Mehmet Ekici, Florian Trinks, Tom Trybull and Johannes Wurtz with Denni Avdic the lone striker.
