With 12 players on leave with their respective national teams, Werder Bremen won their mid-week test match against sixth-division Westfalenliga league leaders SV Rödinghausen 5-1 with Nils Petersen scoring two goals. In the match, which was set up in the last minute, Petersen scored in the 3rd and 21st minutes while Assani Lukimya (16th) Aaron Hunt (24th) and Onel Hernandez (90th) also tallied for the Green-Whites.
Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf said after the final whistle that he was satisfied with the successful football evening. "We played against a good opponent who was very motivated. We moved very well and there was a lot of tempo," said the coach, who also praised the U19 and U23 players he lined up. "We had a lot of young people in there, who showcased themselves for the first time. And all of them did a good job. This is the right way." Captain Aaron Hunt was also satisfied after the test match, saying: "We fulfilled our job and the fans saw a lot of goals."
