SV Werder remained undefeated in 2013 as the Green-Whites best VfL Osnabrück 2-1 in their fourth test match of the new year at osnatel ARENA. Kevin De Bruyne (55th) and Marko Arnautovic (62nd) scored the goals for Thomas Schaaf's team, which collected their third victory during the winter preparations. Bremen kick off the second half of the season against champions Borussia Dortmund on Saturday in Weser Stadium.
Due to overnight snow, both teams struggled in the first quarter-hour dealing with the pitch conditions. Zlatko Junuzovic (6th) and De Bruyne (10th) both were close early with long-distance shots and Nils Petersen hit the post in the 27th minute. De Bruyne found the crossbar just a minute later on a free kick as the match went deadlocked at 0-0 into the break.
Assani Lukimya came on after half-time for Sebastian Prödl, who remained in the changing room with minor muscular problems. De Bruyne gave SV Werder the lead 1-0 after 55 minutes, playing a one-two with Petersen before striking into the left corner. The Green-Whites deservedly were in front.

The guests countered straight away and equalized a minute later 1-1 through Andreas Glockner after a long pass in which the Bremen back line did not look good. Werder did not wait long to answer. Shortly after being subbed in for Junuzovic, Arnautovic made it 2-1 in the 62nd minute on a superb pass from De Bruyne. The lead held up for the victory.
"The good results do mean a lot to me because we were finally rewarded for our efforts," said a satisfied Schaaf. Petersen agreed with his coach, saying: "Altogether, we played well, but it's the same story up front. We came up with so many chances but didn't do enough with them. Osnabrück deserves to be atop the third division. The team is strong. So I think we can be satisfied with the result."
