The start of the Bundesliga season in Dortmund on 24 August 2012 can be a repeat! Werder Bremen beat the two-time reigning German champions 8-7 (3-3) in penalties in a crazy match, claiming the LIGA total! Cup 2012 in Hamburg. The Green-Whites started in wild fashion and were ahead 2-0 after just five minutes. Dortmund turned the game around within just three minutes before the break. In the second half, Aaron Hunt equalised to push the decision to penalties. This time Sebastian Mielitz replacement Raphael Wolf held two spot-kicks to give Werder the victory.

Great start for Füllkrug and co.
Werder had a great start to the game and were ahead 2-0 after goals by Niclas Füllkrug (3rd) and Mehmet Ekici (5th). Bremen played strong football after that but lost concentration between in the 22nd and 25th minutes and fell behind on goals by Marco Reus (22nd) and Robert Lewandowski (24th and 25th). Hunt converted a penalty in the 49th minute to make it 3-3 which was the score after full time, forcing penalties.
Hunt converted again from the spot as did the substitutes Johannes Wurtz and Zlatko Junuzovic as well as Füllkrug and Sebastian Prödl while Clemens Fritz missed. Wolf stopped attempts by Nevan Subotic and Kevin Großkreutz, matching Mielitz's penalty-killer heroics from yesterday and securing Werder the trophy!
