A Werder Bremen team made up of the club's U23 players and professionals won a test match against Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0. Dennis Wegner gave the Green-Whites the lead in a first half which featured few highlights before Joseph Akpala scored the second and final goal after a good hour of action. In the end, the mixed team deserved the victory because of their concentrated performance.
Werder assistant coach Wolfgang Rolff coached the team as Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf had made his way to London to scout Bremen's up-coming opponents Bayern Munich in their Champions League match against Arsenal.
"The guys did a very good job today and did most of what we had talked about. The result is indicative of the motivated performance. This match meant a lot to the U23 players who have missed a lot of matches in the Regionalliga and the professionals who are close to the first team. Everyone was able to gain some match experience," said Rolff after the match.
