SV Werder Bremen are using the Bundesliga-free weekend to play a friendly match in order to stay in game rhythm and give their players more game practice. On Saturday 3 September 2011, Thomas Schaaf's team will take on Union Berlin in a test match at the An der Alten Försterei Stadium starting at 3:30 p.m.
The Green-Whites only have good memories of the second division side from the Köpenick district in Berlin. Werder eased past Union 5-0 in the first round of the German DFB Cup in 2009.

There will be a reunion in Berlin with John Jairo Mosquera, who was sent on loan to Union two years ago from Werder. Mosquera has since played 68 competitive matches for the Berlin club and scored 17 goals. The Columbian striker, whom Union Berlin acquired in full starting this season, last scored this season in the second division game against 1860 Munich. It was the equaliser to make it 1-1 but Union lost 3-1 and are currently ninth on the table.
