Wilhelmshaven are beaten now, holidays can come. In the final test match following the Bundesliga season, Werder Bremen beat Regionalliga club SV Wilhelmshaven 3-2 (3-2). All of the goals were scored in the first half with Sandro Wagner giving Bremen a 1-0 lead after two minutes and Niklas Andersen (11th) and Predrag Stevanovic (15th) also tallying for the Green-Whites. Musa Karli (9th) and Storey (25th) scored the goals for SV Wilhelmshaven.
The absolute highlight of the first half came just before the break as nearly 7,000 spectators saw head coach Thomas Schaaf substitute out Torsten Frings, who was playing his final match for the Green-Whites. The Werder captain left to a boisterous ovation from the crowd and his teammates and coaching staff before slapping hands with every member of the SVW team. In front of the crowd, he symbolically took off his jersey and handed it to Schaaf. "That was a great moment which the coach made possible. It was a lot better than just staying out at the break and nobody knowing what happened. The last jersey belongs to him, he is the coach who pushed me the most. I will always be thankful to him," said Frings shortly after his substitution.
After signing autographs afterwards, the Werder players now head into their well-deserved summer break.
