Werder Bremen won their first test match following the Bundesliga season, comfortably beating a city selection from Salzgitter 8-0. The Green-Whites provided plenty of highlights for the 4,100 spectators, who saw Marko Arnautovic score four times.

Head coach Thomas Schaaf was happy with the event after the final whistle. "Slowly things are getting under way. Altogether it was an excellent event for a good purpose. That makes it easy to make the long trip. We brought with us all our players, even those injured. There were a lot of spectators there so that quite a bit was earned for the good purpose. We played good football and the fans could be satisfied. In the end, it was a chance for the young players to showcase themselves. The kids from the U19 team were really excited. It was after all the first time with the professionals," said Schaaf.
