After a four year absence, SV Werder are finally in the second round of the German DFB Cup! The match-up has been known since August as the Werder players will travel to Chemnitzer FC on Tuesday 28 October 2014. The match at the third division side kicks off at 7 p.m. and is the first competitive match for new coach Viktor Skripnik. The Ukrainian hopes to celebrate his first success after just two training sessions. "We go into the match as clear favourites and must win," said Skripnik. The following statistics overview shows why Werder's new coach should be warned despite the two division difference.
Did you know ...
... that there has only been one competitive match between Werder and Chemnitz? In December 1992, the Green-Whites lost to Chemnitz in the German Cup quarter-finals 2-1 in extra time. In July 2011, Werder played to a 0-0 draw in a test match at the Stadium at Gellertstraße. The goalkeeper back then was Christian Vander, who will be on the bench Tuesday for the first time as Werder's new keeper coach.

... that Werder nearly always scores in the cup? In the last 37 German DFB Cup matches, SVW have only failed to score in one match - that was the 2010 cup final, a 4-0 loss against Bayern Munich.
... that SVW are playing on the road for the seventh straight match? Chemnitz meanwhile have the home pitch advantage for the eighth straight time. Werder in 2009 were the first club to win the cup without playing a home match in that season.
... Chemnitz have a history of beating Bundesliga teams? In 2010, Chemnitz knocked off St. Pauli. This season they beat Mainz 05 - which was a wild match with was even 3-3 after regular time and 5-5 after extra time. In the end, Chemnitz won 10-9 in a penalty shootout.
