For Werder Bremen's first round opponent in the German DFB Cup, SC Preußen 06 e.V. Münster, the game is the biggest one of the year without a doubt. The website of the third division club was speaking of a "special game day" for Sunday 19 August 2012 at 4 p.m. when the game will be kicked off at the sold-out Preußen Stadium. While Thomas Schaaf's Green-Whites are still waiting for their first Bundesliga match of the season, the host side has been playing for weeks, ranking fourth after five game days.

Werder Bremen would like to beat Preußen to get their season off on the right foot. After winning the German DFB Cup in 2009 and reaching the final in 2010, the Green-Whites have exited the competition early in the past two seasons. In 2011, Bremen lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich in the second round and then they crashed out of the first round last season, 2-1 against 1. FC Heidenheim. Now Schaaf hopes to get back to their storied past.
Even though there is a major difference in level, Schaaf spoke of the danger of the opponents. "Preußen Münster are a confident team. They have shown that already this season in their games. They also do not panic when they fall behind. They have already made up two deficits this season. I expect them to look for their chances," said Schaaf. Preußen Münster have not been able to get a victory in the German DFB Cup in the last 22 years. Werder hope that this series continues.
