Werder Bremen suffered a 2-1 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg in their away match on the sixth game day of the Bundesliga. Ricardo Rodriguez and Ivica Olic scored for Wolfsburg while Marnon Busch struck for Werder. After the defeat, Bremen dropped to 17th on the table.
Four changes
Werder head coach Robin Dutt made four changes to his starting line-up after the 3-0 home loss against Schalke 04. Sebastian Prödl, Nils Petersen, Cedrick Makiadi and Izet Hajrovic started for Eljero Elia (flu), Luca Caldirola, Davie Selke and Alejandro Galvez.
1-0 deficit through Rodriguez
After an even early stage, Wolfsburg pressured Werder's defence and the Green-Whites fell behind 1-0 after 15 minutes. After a Werder corner, Dutt's men watched Wolfsburg launch a counter attack with Kevin De Bruyne passing to Rodriguez, who ran onto Raphael Wolf and beat the Werder keeper to take the lead. At the other end, Fin Bartels passed over to Nils Petersen who had an open look at the goal but Naldo got in the way in the last second.

Busch equalises
Werder were lucky in the 24th minute to be down just 1-0 as Luiz Gustavo blasted a volley from six yards out but Zlatko Junuzovic was on the line to fend away the Brazilian's shot. Werder grabbed the crucial equaliser 1-1 in the 37th minute with Bartels playing a ball out to Busch on the right side and the youngster hammered his shot just inside the near right post for his first Bundesliga goal. And the score was 1-1 at the break.
Chances not used
Werder came out of the changing room better and had two chances early on. Petersen saw his shot blocked by Diego Benaglio in the 51st minute and just 60 seconds later, the Wolfsburg keeper batted away a long range blast from Hajrovic.
Olic gives Wolfsburg lead
The Green-Whites got caught by a counter attack six minutes later as Vieirinha crossed from the right side into the box where Olic headed to the far right post past Wolf. Werder tried to equalise again but Naldo blocked away Hajrovic's shot in the 65th minute. And then Sebastian Prödl's long range blast from 17 yards went just wide. In the end, the Green-Whites could not find the back of the net again and had to accept the 2-1 defeat.
