Werder Bremen came back late to secure at least one point against Bayer Leverkusen with an entertaining 3-3 draw on the road. Tin Jedvaj, Hakan Calhanoglu and Son Heu Ming scored for Leverkusen while Fin Bartels, Franco Di Santo and Sebastian Prödl struck for Werder.
Bartels for Hajrovic
Werder head coach Robin Dutt made one change to his starting line-up with Bartels coming on for Izet Hajrovic, who only returned to team training on Thursday following international team duty. Some 3,000 Green-Whites fans made the trip to the BayArena to support Werder.
Jedvaj makes it 1-0
Leverkusen, who started the season with two victories, was the better team at the beginning in their own stadium and dominated the match with fast and quick passing. Werder had major problems defending their goal and were lucky in the 11th minute when Gonzalo Castro's blast went of the left post. But Werder keeper Raphael Wolf was beaten in the 17th minute as Jedvaj's shot went in just under the crossbar for a deserved 1-0 Leverkusen lead. Werder had more luck later in the half as both Emir Spahic (28th minute) and Levin Öztunali (35th) found only the woodwork as Leverkusen really needed to hold a bigger lead.

Bartels equalises
Just before the half-time whistle was blown, Dutt's team was able to grab the lucky equaliser. After some fine passing, Bartels got the ball and scored to make it 1-1, giving the Werder fans something to cheer about going into the break with the game deadlocked at 1-1.
Spectacular second half
The second half provided some major entertainment. Werder found their way into the game better and took the lead 2-1 after 60 minutes on a counter attack with Zlatko Junuzovic passing to Di Santo, who converted for the Green-Whites' lead. But Leverkusen grabbed the 2-2 equaliser just three minutes later with Calhanoglu placing his free kick perfectly past Wolf and into the Werder goal.
Son Heu Ming Son and Prödl both score
Davie Selke missed a big chance to break the tie in the 64th minute as Leverkusen keeper Bernd Leno stopped the youngster's shot. And Werder fell behind in the 74th minute 3-2 with Assani Lukimya slipping and Son using the space to hammer home a long blast. Werder refused to give up and continued to fight down the stretch. And the fight was rewarded in the 85th minute as Prödl equalised 3-3 with a shot from the side. It was a thrilling match and Werder now have three straight draws to start the season.
