Werder Bremen played to a 1-1 draw against 1899 Hoffenheim in their first home match of the new Bundesliga season. Roberto Firmino put the guests ahead in the first half before Alejandro Galvez provided the equaliser.
Three changes
Head coach Robin Dutt made three changes to his changes to his starting formation with Galves, Davie Selke and Sebastian Prödl starting for Luca Caldirola, Toni Kroos and Cedric Makiadi.
Hoffenheim lead through Firmino
After a balanced beginning stage, the 40,000 spectators at Weser Stadium saw Hoffenheim grab the lead 1-0 after 19 minutes. Sebastian Rudy played a nice pass to Firmino, who poked home the ball past an out-charging Werder keeper Raphael Wolf. Werder increased their commitment and tempo and had a good chance in the 40th minute. Izet Hajrovic sent a free kick into the box and Galvez got his head on the ball but Hoffenheim keeper Oliver Baumann made a spectacular save in pushing the shot wide of the post. And Dutt's team trailed 1-0 at the break.

Equaliser by Galvez
The first chance of the second half went to the guests in the 53rd minute as Niklas Süle headed just wide of Wolf's goal from four yards out off a corner. Selke was a bit unlucky with a header four minutes later at the other end with his attempt also sailing wide. But Werder picked up the 1-1 equaliser in the 60th minute. Franco Di Santo struck a cross into the box where Galvez chested the ball down and volleyed it home.
Garcia unlucky
Santiago Garcia was unlucky in the 69th minute not to have scored as he struck only the post from six yards on a corner by Zlatko Junuzovic. The Green-Whites were the better team and were pushed forward by the 40,000 fans at Weser Stadium. But Bremen couldn't use their chances, including Nils Petersen in the 79th minute. And the first home match of the season ended in a 1-1 draw.
