Werder Bremen suffered a 5-2 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt in their Bundesliga away match on the 14th match day, dropping to 17th in the table. Theo Gebre Selassie and Luca Caldirola scored for the Green-Whites while Alexander Meier scored twice and Haris Seferovic, Stefan Aigner and Marc Stendera all tallied one goal.
Three changes
Werder coach Viktor Skripnik made three changes to his starting line-up compared to the 4-0 victory against SC Paderborn. Assani Lukimya replaced the suspended Alejandro Galvez while Santiago Garcia and Clemens Fritz returned to the line-up for Izet Hajrovic and Janek Sternberg.
Meier and Gebre Selassie score
The match started very intensively with both teams playing aggressive and quick football. Werder lost their defensive boss Sebastian Prödl in the 24th minute as the Austrian was subbed out with an injury and replaced by Caldirola. Werder were lucky that the match was scoreless in the 33rd minute as Takashi Inui headed off the post. But Werder keeper Raphael Wolf was beaten just 60 seconds later as Stendera blasted a shot off the post and Meier pounced on the rebound and hit home to make it 1-0 for Frankfurt in the 34th minute. The Green-Whites fought back into the game and tallied the 1-1 equaliser in the 45th minute as Zlatko Junuzovic's corner was headed in by Gebre Selassie. And the score was 1-1 at the break.

Frankfurt tally next three goals
Werder were part of an exciting second half but fell behind 2-1 in the 52nd minute as Seferovic fouled Wolf in the box before scoring Frankfurt's second goal. But the foul was not given and Wolf remained injured on the ground and was subbed out for Richard Strebinger. Werder were unlucky in the 66th minute as Felix Kroos's shot went off the upright. Instead of the equaliser, Frankfurt went ahead 3-1 as Meier scored in the 68th minute. Aigner increased the lead to 4-1 in the 74th minute for the hosts.
Werder pull goal back but not enough
Werder refused to give up and pulled a goal back in the 79th minute as Caldirola scored to make it 4-2 after good set-up work by Fin Bartels and Philipp Bargfrede. But Stendera increased the lead to 5-2 just 60 seconds later. That secured the defeat for good. The loss is aggravating because Frankfurt went ahead 2-1 after the foul on Wolf, which was not given and took Werder out of their rhythm.
