Werder Bremen suffered their first loss of the Bundesliga season as they were defeated 4-2 at FC Augsburg. Daniel Baier, Paul Verhaeg (penalty), Tobias Werner and Tim Matavz scored for the hosts while Davie Selke and Franco Di Santo (penalty) struck for Werder.
Selke strikes early
Werder boss Robin Dutt did not make any changes from the 3-3 Leverkusen draw. And the Green-Whites came up with the perfect start as the 19-year-old Selke scored his first Bundesliga goal in the third minute for a 1-0 lead. Santiago Garcia served up a pass from the left side and Selke, who just extended his contract with Werder until 2018 during the week, struck home from four yards out.
Augsburg equalise
Augsburg evened the match just 11 minutes later with Baier making it 1-1 in the 14th minute. Halil Altintop set up the goal with a fine pass behind the Green-Whites' backline and Baier left no chance for Werder keeper Raphael Wolf.

Augsburg pull ahead
Werder had a major chance in the 27th minute but Augsburg keeper Marwin Hitz was able to fend away Fin Bartels' blast. Augsburg added a second goal three minutes into stoppage time from the spot. Verhaegh converted the penalty after Bartels was ruled to have taken down Raul Bobadilla. Wolf chose the correct corner but could not stop Verhaegh's spot kick. The Green-Whites trailed 2-1 at the break.
Di Santo equalises 2-2
Dutt didn't make a change after 45 minutes and the Green-Whites equalised the game 11 minutes after the re-start from the spot. Dominik Kohr took down Bartels in the area and Di Santo took the responsibility and hammered home his penalty just under the crossbar. Izet Hajrovic missed a chance to give Bremen the lead in the 65th minute as Hitz made a great save.
Werner and Matavz decide the game
Werder were actually the better match after the equaliser but Augsburg grabbed the lead again in the 77th minute 3-2 as Caiuby's blast went off the crossbar and Werner headed in the rebound. Bremen pushed forward looking for the equaliser but were caught unorganised on the counter attack as Matavz made it 4-2 three minutes into stoppage time.
