Werder trailed for long spells against Hannover 96 on matchday 32 and struggled for much of the game. But in the end another wonderful late free kick for Zlatko Junuzovic, his fifth of the season now, secured a 1-1 draw. Captain Lars Stindl put the home side in front mid way through the first half. Werder currently sit eighth in the league on 43 points, level on points with Dortmund in seventh.
Line up and formation: After a convincing performance against Eintracht Frankfurt, there was no reason to make any changes to the team. Other than Sebastian Prödl, who has been suffering with the flu, the team remained unchanged from last week. The recently injured Jannik Vestergaard took his place in central defence.

The highlights:
8th min: First chance of the game. Kiyotake finds Sané alone in the box with an in-swinging free kick from the left, but the improvised attempt lands on top of the goal net.
17th min: 96 waste a huge chance to go in front: Prib's pass splits open the Werder defence to play Briand through on goal, but the striker can only put it wide from 12 yards out.
20th min: On the brink of relegation, Hannover are in desperate need of a win and are playing at a higher than usual intensity as a result. The Green Whites have struggled to match them thus far and are giving the ball away needlessly in defence as Hannover continue to pile on the pressure.
21st min: Goal. 1-0 to Hannover, Lars Stindl. Hannover finally get a goal. Albornoz's long ball is flicked on by Briand straight into the path of captain Lars Stindl, who cooly finishes from inside the penalty area.
26th min: Kiyotake with another dangerous set piece to Sané, who flicks it on but Fritz clears before Schulz could pounce.
33rd min: Same combination, another chance for 96. Kiyotake's corner finds Sané, who heads wide.
45 + 1 min: Half time. Despite Fritz's long-range effort late on, Werder have shown very little to suggest they can get something from the game.
53rd min: Skripnik reacts at half time. . Öztunali and Bartels come on for Hajrovic and Bargfrede. The first attacking play of the half comes through Kiyotake, yet again, but Casteels is quick to smother the ball at the Japanese international's feet.

58th min: Prib creates a great opportunity for Briand, but Casteels is once again quick off his line to clear the danger..
60th min: Junuzovic delivers Werder's first corner for Lukimya, who leaps high but heads the ball a good metre over the bar.
78th min: GOOOAAAALLLLLL! 1-1 Zlatko Junuzovic! If you can't score from open play, try from a set piece! Zunuzovic curls a beauty of a free kick into the top-right corner from 25 yards out to equalise for Werder.
86th min: Ooooooo. He almost does it again! Junuzovic, with another free kick, aims for the top left corner this time, but fires just over. Sané attempts a wonder goal on the turn from 20 yards, but it flies well over.
90 + 3 mins: Full time in Hannover and Werder could almost have won it in the end, with a great chance for Clemens Fritz, but the 96 keeper Zieler saved well.
Summary: Against a clearly rejuvenated Hannover side, who fought for every inch today with the threat of relegation hanging over their heads, Werder looked panicked for long spells of the game. Especially in the first half, the Green Whites had little to offer against the home side (60%-40% possession). Skripnik's attacking changes looked to have changed very little initially, but as the game went on, the home side began to sit back more and more, which gave Werder the impetus to attack. The point was sealed with just over ten to go, after another spectacular free kick from Junuzovic made it 1-1.
