The Werder bus left the Weser Stadium grounds at 3:30 p.m. packed with 18 players as well as the team staff. The next Bundesliga destination is Borussia Mönchengladbach! Robin Dutt's team will square off against Lucien Favre's team exactly 24 hours later on Saturday 31 August 2013.
A good-sized group of fans gathered on the training grounds Friday afternoon for the final training and to give the Green-Whites a last boost of energy and motivation before heading to Gladbach. The duo of Tom Trybull and Aleksandar Stevanovic were unable, however, to profit yet from the fans' support.
While Trybull was able to get back to running training Friday following his foot stress fracture, Stevanovic did not even come to the training grounds with an inflammation.
The remainder of the roster meanwhile can look forward to the match against Mönchengladbach. It will likely be an exciting and heated battle between the defensive strong Green-Whites and offensive-minded Gladbach. One of the hosts' offensive players is former Werder attacker Max Kruse. Current Werder players Sebastian Mielitz and Cedrick Makiadi have already played with him and know him very good.
"Max is a super guy who really took a step forward in Freiburg. I really think he received a lot of know-how back then. He is even more professional this year and even stronger. We had a successful time and a lot of fun. I am looking forward to seeing him again on the pitch," said Makiadi, who knows Kruse from their time together in Freiburg.
The following 18 players made their way to Gladbach: Mielitz, Wolf - Caldirola, Lukimya, Makiadi, Arnautovic, Fritz, Di Santo, Ekici, Elia, Hunt, Prödl, Junuzovic, Ignjovski, Kroos, Gebre Selassie, Petersen, Yildirim.
