Werder Bremen fought back in their home match against VfB Stuttgart for a 1-1 draw in the 25th match day of the Bundesliga to remain undefeated for their fifth straight match. Georg Niedermeier gave Stuttgart the lead before Werder got back into the game and Aaron Hunt scored the equaliser.

No changes
After a strong performance in the 2-0 victory at Nuremberg, Werder coach Robin Dutt made no changes to his starting line-up. The guests had the better start in front of 41,000 spectators at Weser Stadium though neither team could really create any serious goal chances. That was also because of the Green-Whites' strong defence. Werder finally had their first scoring opportunity in the 32nd minute as Nils Petersen passed to Luca Caldirola for a pass into the box but Franco Di Santo shot just over the bar. The Green-Whites had another chance four minutes later but Di Santo's ball was blocked by two Stuttgart defenders.

Stuttgart miss penalty
Stuttgart were awarded a spot kick in the 45th minute as Assani Lukimya was ruled to have handled Gotoku Sakai's shot in the box. Former Bremen player Martin Harnik stepped up but struck his penalty off the outside of the right post to keep the match deadlocked at 0-0 at the break.

Chance for Junuzovic
After a first half with few highlights, Werder started well after half-time though Ludovic Obraniak's free kick attempt was off target in the 48th minute. Shortly thereafter Hunt passed into the box but Zlatko Junuzovic's shot was blocked away. At the other end, Werder keeper Raphael Wolf made a fine save on Cacau's shot and then Lukimya saved Harnik's shot at the line in the 54th minute.

Niedermeier scores, Hunt provides equaliser
Werder fell behind 1-0 in the 55th minute. Wolf initially stopped Niedermeier's first attempt but the rebound came right back to Niedermeier who would not be denied for the guests. Stuttgart gained more control of the match thereafter, forcing Werder further back defensively in their own stadium. But the Green-Whites were given a free kick in the 79th minute and Hunt grabbed the ball and placed his free kick perfectly into the corner to make it 1-1. Both teams attempted to push forward looking for the three points but in the end it was a deserved 1-1 draw.
