At the end it was "only" a 3-3 draw between SV Werder Bremen and Nuremberg Sunday afternoon, but the spectators at Weser Stadium really got a show to watch. After an early own goal by Nuremberg's Berkay Dabanli, Eljero Elia scored his first two goals in Werder kit. But Nuremberg had scores from Hiroshi Kiyotake, Josip Drmic and Adam Hlousek as the game ended in a draw.

The Green-Whites started well in the match after the 2-0 North Derby win last week, especially new acquisition Santiago Garcia. The Argentinean was making his home debut and supplied pressure from the left side in the attack. And it's thanks to his push forward that Bremen went ahead in the eighth minute as Werder's new leftback raced into the box and attempted a pass to Aaron Hunt that was deflected into the goal by Nuremberg's Dabanli for a 1-0 Bremen lead. And the Green-Whites' fans celebratedthe Argentinean wildly after the score.

SVW dominated the first half and proved versatile and flexible offensively and compact defensively. Hunt had the next chance in the 19th minute but failed to hit after a pass from Elia. Hunt again tested the Nuremberg keeper Raphael Schäfer six minutes later - after a pass from Garcia - but again couldn't find the back of the net. Hunt was able to set up a special goal in the 34th minute, feeding a ball to Elia, who blasted home a rocket from the edge of the box for his first goal for Werder to give the Green-Whites a 2-0 lead. After the goal, the Dutchman raced over to head coach Robin Dutt and thanked him for his faith.

The celebrations were a bit premature as Nuremberg struck back just before the break to make it 2-1 in the 44th minute on more or less their first chance of the game. Werder were caught napping as Kiyotake halved the deficit. That was the score at the break.

The substitute Drmic equalised 2-2 in the 53rd minute as he beat Bremen keeper Sebastian Mielitz going to the other direction. Werder were not shaken though and continued to create chances. Just like against Hamburg, Assani Lukimya's header was cleared at the line by the Nuremberg defence in the 58th minute. Elia, however, struck again in the 66th minute to give Werder back the lead 3-2 with a volley hammer from 25 yards out to the far corner. Nuremberg punched back four minutes later and equalised a second time 3-3 in the 70th minute as Kiyotake sent a fine through ball to Hlousek, who beat Mielitz for the score.

Mielitz ended up saving at least a point for Bremen as Tomas Peckart had two chances in the 73rd and 78th minute before Drmic found only the crossbar in the 79th minute. In the end, the teams split the spoils and Bremen collected their first draw of the season after three wins and three defeats.
