Werder Bremen won their away match against Nuremberg 2-0 Saturday night to earn three very important points in their fight against relegation. Franco Di Santo and Philipp Bargfrede scored the goals for the Green-Whites. With the victory, Werder improved to 11th place on the table.
Caldirola for Garica
Werder coach Robin Dutt had to make one change to his starting line-up after the strong derby win over Hamburg with Luca Caldirola filling in for the injured leftback Santiago Garcia. Nuremberg had more run of play from the beginning in their own stadium but Werder worked very concentrated on defence and didn't allow very many chances at all. The hosts did get through the back line in the 12th minute though Caldirola cleared away a dangerous ball in the box in the last second in front of Hiroshi Kiyotake, keeping his team in the game.
Di Santo scores
The Green-Whites showed their first sign of life offensively after 22 minutes as Di Santo hammered his shot off the crossbar from 21 yards. But the Argentinean was successful in the 40th minute as Aaron Hunt first sent his shot off the framework and Di Santo was there to pounce on the loose ball for a 1-0 lead for the guests at the break.

Bargfrede makes it 2-0
Not much changed in the second half in terms of run of play. Nuremberg tried to build up pressure but Werder stood very well defensively. Dutt's team was clearly successful in their mindframe of every one fights for the other, building upon the strong team showing from the derby win over Hamburg. Bargfrede scored the important 2-0 goal for Werder in the 68th minute as the midfielder snagged a bad pass by Campana, ran towards the goal and struck a shot that was deflected off Pinola and into the Nuremberg goal.
Fair Play by Hunt
Referee Manuel Gräfe pointed to the spot after a foul on Hunt in the 75th minute. But the Werder captain explained to the referee that it was not a foul, and no penalty was given. Werder maintained the advantage over the remainder of the match and earned a very important away victory in Nuremberg thanks to a great team performance.
