SV Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg played to a 0-0 draw in a match that was very uneventful over long stretches and ended up being the first scoreless encounter this Bundesliga season. Werder had the better chances as Aaron Hunt and Nils Petersen were both close and Luca Caldirola struck the post. Freiburg showed a lot of determination in splitting the spoils at Weser Stadium and were decidedly more satisfied than the hosts.
Lively match, no goals
The first chances of the match went to Clemens Fritz (first minute), Admir Mehmedi (2nd) and Julian Schuster (7th) though none of them were really dangerous. While Bremen were unable to really stamp their authority on the match, Freiburg worked well offensively and tried repeatedly to beat the Werder defence with quick counter attacks. But the Green-Whites back line stood well-positioned. Bremen were very close in the 18th minute as Hunt's blast from 21 yards out just barely missed its target. The next good chance was Petersen's as he collected a Hunt pass but could not beat Freiburg keeper Oliver Baumann in the 24th minute. Werder were much better at this stage but Baumann saved another shot two minutes later by Hunt. The game was scoreless 0-0 at the break.

Caldirola hits post, no one can score
The second half did not have that many highlights. Caldirola struck only the post off a corner in the 54th minute for the hosts. Both teams struggled to control the ball after that stage until Hunt's next attempt at the 70-minute mark when his blast from 19 yards out went just wide of the right post. Despite this good opportunity, this was hardly top-class football.
Would the contest be the first match in the on-going Bundesliga season to end 0-0? Both sides were determined for it not to be the case - even though the match lacked in structure. A minute before the final whistle, Freiburg's Matthias Ginter struck only the crossbar off a corner. And a minute later, Petersen once again was foiled by Baumann. Then it was over and two streaks continued - Freiburg remained winless for the season and Werder improved their undefeated mark to four matches. But the result snapped a different streak as it was Bremen's first 0-0 draw since January 2012 against Kaiserslautern.
