Werder Bremen came up with a disappointing performance on the fifth match day of the Bundesliga, losing 3-0 at home against Eintracht Frankfurt for their third straight defeat. Vaclav Kadlec scored two goals for Frankfurt and Sebastian Prödl added an own goal. The Green-Whites played the final 74 minutes a man down as Franco di Santa saw the red card after 26 minutes.

Early deficit
Head coach Robin Dutt made three changes to his starting line-up with Lukimya Assani, Mehmet Ekici and di Santo starting for Theo Gebre Selassie, Zlatko Junuzovic and Nils Petersen. Werder struggled early on against the strong guests and fell behind 1-0 after 14 minutes as a counter attack was followed by Oczipka passing into the middle to Kadlec, who picked up the ball in front of Assani and beat Werder keeper Sebastian Mielitz from short distance.

Franco di Santa saw the red card after 26 minutes.

Red card for di Santo
Di Santo committed an over-zealous foul in the 26th minute, kicking Oczipka in the head and seeing a red card for it. And the next bad news for Werder fans came eight minutes later as Jung crossed into the middle where Lukimya and Prödl did not do a good job marking Kadlec, who gave Frankfurt a 2-0 lead, which was also the advantage at the break.

Hunt misses penalty
Dutt made two changes to start the second half with Gebre Selassie entering for Felix Kroos and Aleksandar Ignjovski replacing Ekici. Werder had a big chance to pull a goal back in the 58th minute. Aaron Hunt was fouled in the box and stepped up to the spot himself but failed to convert.

Own goal from Prödl
The match was decided after 77 minutes as Prödl scored an own goal on a cross from Jung to give Frankfurt a 3-0 lead. The Green-Whites were unable to create any real pressure a man down and lost the match to Frankfurt.
