Werder Bremen secured a 1-1 draw at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach on the 21st match of the Bundesliga. Raffael gave the guests the lead but Ludovic Obraniak scored a late equaliser for Bremen.

Three changes
Head coach Robin Dutt made three changes to his starting line-up with Aleksandar Ignjovski, Cedrick Makiadi and Nils Petersen starting for Theo Gebre Selassie, Aaron Hunt and Eljero Elia.

Early Gladbach goal
Werder conceded an early goal in front of a sold-out crowd of 42,100 fans at Weser Stadium. Bremen's Assani Lukimya played the ball unluckily to Gladbach playmaker Raffael and the Brazilian took advantage of the chance and gave the guests the lead 1-0 after six minutes.

1-0 deficit at intermission
Dutt's team seemed insecure directly after the score and struggled to find their form while Gladbach were the better and more dangerous team. Petersen had a chance for Bremen after 26 minutes but Gladbach keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen made a fine save. Dutt brought Felix Kroos on for the unsure Lukimya after 27 minutes. But the Green-Whites still trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Bad luck for Werder
Werder were very unlucky after 49 minutes as a cross from Zlatko Junuzovic banged off the crossbar and Petersen shot just inches wide a minute later after a pass from Franco di Santo. The Green-Whites were then lucky in the 64th minute as Makiadi re-directed Raffael's free kick off the post.

Obraniak scores
Werder remained determined but could not create many chances. The guests seemed more experienced and dangerous on attack. But it was Bremen who scored as Obraniak placed his free kick perfectly over the wall and into the right corner in the 88th minute to make it 1-1.
