Two away goals and no points. Werder Bremen ended up losing their match at promoted side Hertha Berlin 3-2. Nils Petersen gave the Green-White the lead (15th) but a double strike by Adrian Ramos (17th/26th) pushed Berlin ahead. Despite the equaliser by Aaron Hunt (32nd), Hertha won thanks to Ronny's goal (48th) shortly after the re-start.
Both teams needed a quarter-hour to warm themselves up in Berlin's Olympic Stadium. But once they got rolling, it really got wild. The first chance of the match gave Werder their first celebrations. After some fine dribbling by Cedrick Makiadi, Hunt passed over to Petersen and Werder's top goal scorer blasted from long range to make it 1-0 in the 15th minute.
But a minute later Theodor Gebre Selassie, who replaced the injured captain Clemens Fritz at right back in the starting line-up, took down Per Skjelbred in the box resulting in a penalty for Berlin. Ramos stepped up and converted his ninth goal of the season to make it 1-1 after 17 minutes. Olympic Stadium was really rocking by now. Eljero Elia missed a great chance shortly after play started again but headed just over the bar. Franco di Santo's low shot to the near corner was another chance for Bremen in the 23rd minute. But instead of a second Werder goal, it was a second score by Berlin - and a second for Ramos. The Colombian got past Luca Caldirola and hit into the far side of the goal for a 2-1 Hertha lead after 26 minutes.

Werder's super start was gone just more than 10 minutes later. But the Green-Whites would not let themselves get down and provided the equaliser 2-2 in the 32nd minute with Petersen feeding Hunt and the captain hit home in his 200th Bundesliga match. The match was truly back and forth and went into the changing rooms even at 2-2.
The 8,000 Werder fans on hand saw their team give up another goal just three minutes after the re-start as Hertha playmaker Ronny rebounded home a blocked shot by Wolfsburg keeper Raphael Wolf to make it 3-2. This time Robin Dutt's team needed a few minutes to collect themselves again.
Neither team created much offense as the match turned into an intensive battle with little rhythm. The only chances went to Hertha through Fabian Lustenberger after 61 minutes and Marcel Ndjeng in the 71st.
Werder woke back up in the final quarter hour as Caldirola attempted a volley but went over the goal. Still, it was the start of a final push by Bremen. A Hunt free kick in the 88th was fended away off the inside of the post and then cleared at the line by Leven Kobiashvilli. Despite five minutes of stoppage time, the result did not change and Werder left the capital without a point.
