Werder Bremen fought to a 0-0 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt, picking up an important point on the 22nd match day of the Bundesliga. Robin Dutt's team had to play the final 55 minutes a man down as Felix Kroos was sent off.
One change
Dutt made one change to his starting line-up with Kroos replacing Assani Lukimya and playing next to Sebastian Prödl as centre back. Those was the same 11 players who played the strong second half last weekend against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Frankfurt better
The Green-Whites were put under pressure defensively as Frankfurt took control of the match early on. Yet Werder had the first good chance after nine minutes as Nils Petersen crossed from the left into the middle where Zlatko Junuzovic just missed the ball. At the other end, Raphael Wolf made a strong save in the 15th minute against Joselu. Bremen were lucky four minutes later as Alexander Meier's free kick blasted off the right post.

Red card for Kroos
Kroos saw the red card in the 34th minute for his second warning. Coach Dutt reacted immediately and subbed in Santiago Garcia for Petersen to focus more on defence. Garcia moved to the left side of the defence with Luca Caldirola taking over the position of Kroos. Werder used dedication and fight to keep the game dead-locked at 0-0 at the break - though they really couldn't create much offensively.
Lots of defensive work
Very little changed in the run of play in the second half. Werder defended with a lot of fight a man down while Frankfurt controlled the match. But Eintracht could not figure out the attentive Werder defence to create real chances.
The Green-Whites withstood Frankfurt's pressure until the end and picked up a very important point in the fight against relegation.
