Werder Bremen lost their home match against FC Augsburg 1-0 on the 24th game day of the Bundesliga. Tobias Werner scored the only goal of the match for Augsburg in the first half as the Green-Whites lost their third straight game despite hitting the framework twice in the final 22 minutes.
Two changes
Head coach Thomas Schaaf made two changes to his starting line-up with Sokratis replacing the suspended Sebastian Prödl and Mehmet Ekici taking over for Theo Gebre Selassie. The some 38,000 spectators at Weser Stadium saw a hard-fought match from the beginning. Werder had the first chance to pull ahead in the 19th minute but Marko Arnautovic could not beat Augsburg keeper Mohamed Amsif after dribbling through the Augsburg backline.
Werner gives Augsburg lead
The Werder defence lost their concentration in the 29th minute and gave Koo Ja-Cheol space to cross into the middle where Andre Hahn headed on to Werner, who went down to head in past Bremen keeper Sebastian Mielitz to make it 1-0.
Schaaf's team was a bit insecure after falling behind and could not find rhythm in their passing game and trailed 1-0 going into the changing room.
