The first competitive match of the new year for Werder Bremen will be a big one as the Green-Whites welcome the reigning Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund to Weser Stadium on Saturday night 19 January 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Dortmund have a big goal for the second half of the season as they want to provide highlights in all three competitions in which they are playing. A sign for their intentions came in the winter break as they welcomed Nuri Sahin on loan from Real Madrid until June 2014.
Five players for two positions
With the move, Dortmund head coach Jürgen Klopp has the luxury of too many top players for the spots in his midfield. Sahin joins Sebastian Kehl, Ilkay Gündogan, Sven Bender and Moritz Leitner as players who want to play the two openings in Klopp's starting line-up. In addition, the Dortmund attack includes international-experienced stars like Mario Götze and Marco Reus among others. Dortmund are still in the German DFB Cup as well as the Champions League Round of 16, where they will take on Shakhtar Donetsk. In addition, the champs have not given up hopes for a third straight German league crown.

"Thick socks and moonboots" against the cold
After a good training camp in Belek and three victories and one draw in the four winter break test matches, Werder come into the game against Dortmund with confidence. And Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf showed he's well prepared as he said he has "thick socks and moonboots" ready for the icy temperatures expected this weekend.
The players of course will not be wearing winter boots. But a hotly contested showdown is guaranteed. Dortmund coach Klopp hopes the kick-off is the start of a strong half-season as they plan on having success in all three competitions. "We just want to play the best possible second half," said the Dortmund coach.
