After the derby comes the next derby. One week after the showdown in Hamburg, Werder Bremen will take on Hannover 96 at Weser Stadium on Friday 1 February 2013 at 8:30 p.m. and Thomas Schaaf's Green-Whites are looking to make up for the 3-2 defeat in the first match-up this season.
Nils Petersen during the week spoke of wanting to get a "dirty victory". Schaaf meanwhile doesn't care how his team gets the three points. "The most important thing is that we need the victory," said the coach, who isn't hoping for any coincidences. After his team played much more actively in the North Derby than they did against Dortmund, Schaaf continued the same training methods this week. "We worked on the fine-tuning. The team was very motivated during training and realised even more the need to move quickly from defence to offence," said the coach. Schaaf wants his team to pressure the opponents even more as well as create more scoring opportunities and take advantage of those.

Schaaf warns team despite Hannover's long injury list
This could happy especially since Hannover have to deal with so many injuries in their defence. In addition to the former Bremen player Christian Schulz, Felipe and captain Steven Cherundolo are out as well as Mario Eggimann and the suspended Sebastian Pocognoli and Andre Hoffmann. The Green-Whites meanwhile have to do without the suspended duo of Clemens Fritz and Marko Arnautovic. Schaaf expects two teams extremely motivated teams and a difficult match. "Hannover have developed themselves very well and are playing good football this season. Even though a few players are missing, they still have a strong squad. They are especially strong in the attack with Diouf, Abdellaoue, Huszti and Schlaudraff, who can score a lot of goals," said Schaaf.
Even though the guests have four more points to their credit and have started the second half with a spectacular 5-4 win at Schalke and a 2-1 win at home over Wolfsburg, Hannover head coach Mirko Slomka warned his team about the Green-Whites. "We should realise that Werder have only lost against top teams at home. That's why our goal is to steal one point from Bremen," said Slomka. Hannover have also struggled to shine in Bremen, having won only one game in 32 match-ups, with that victory coming nearly 10 years ago. Hopefully that's a good omen for Werder's second night match of 2013!
