Werder Bremen came up with another disappointing performance in a 3-0 defeat at home against VfL Wolfsburg, remaining in the fight against relegation. The goals for the guests were scored by Maximilian Arnold, Ivica Olic and Diego.
Three changes
Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf made three changes to the starting line-up with Clemens Fritz, Sokratis and Aaron Hunt coming in for Felix Kroos, Mateo Pavlovic and Nils Petersen.
Early goal conceded
Werder once again fell behind early in front of 42,000 spectators in Weser Stadium with Wolfsburg scoring after 13 minutes. Arnold was fed a pass, got around Kevin De Bruyne and shot into the lower left corner with Bremen keeper Sebastian Mielitz unable to reach the ball for a 1-0 Wolfsburg lead.

Wolfsburg make it 2-0
The Green-Whites quickly recovered from the shock of the early goal and pushed forward looking for the equaliser. But the defence once again remained organised and Sebastian Prödl misjudged a ball, which landed at Olic, who rounded Mielitz and pushed home for a 2-0 lead after 27 minutes. Werder went into the break trailing 2-0.
Chance for Arnautovic
Werder tried to get back into the match in the second half and had a good chance as Wolfsburg keeper Diego Benaglio misplayed a cross from De Bruyne in the 59th minute but Marko Arnautovic was unable to hit home into the empty goal.
Diego decided the match
The game was decided in the 66th minute when Öskan Yildirim fouled Vieirnha in the box and Diego converted the penalty to make it 3-0. Schaaf's team could not get back into the match and it ended with a surprising 3-0 loss for the Green-Whites.
