Werder Bremen lost their final game of the 2012-13 season despite a strong showing, falling 3-2 at Nuremberg to finish the season with a 13-match winless streak. In the first game of the post-Thomas Schaaf era, Kevin De Bruyne gave Werder the lead but Nuremberg went ahead 3-1 on goals by Per Nilsson, Sebastian Polter and Tomas Pekhart before De Bruyne scored a second time.
Four changes
Co-coaches Wolfgang Rolff and Matthias Hönerbach made four changes to the starting line-up with Sokratis, Özkan Yildirim, Aaron Hunt (all injured) and Philipp Bargfrede (suspended) out and replaced by Assani Lukimya, Aleksandar Ignovski, Zlatko Junuzovic and Joseph Akpala.
Poor start
Neither team started very well in front of 47,000 spectators at Nürnberger Stadium with few very highlights in the early going. Werder, however, found their way better into the game.
First chance
The Green-Whites were finally dangerous after 18 minutes as Akpala passed to De Bruyne but Nuremberg keeper Raphael Schäfer did a good job to stop the Belgian's shot.
De Bruyne scores
Werder got stronger and stronger thereafter and had another chance in the 27th minute but Nils Petersen's header went over the framework. De Bruyne proved more efficient in the 37th minute, making it 1-0 with a looping shot over Schäfer after a pass from Junuzovic. And Bremen went into the changing rooms ahead 1-0.

Junuzovic misses chance
The second half started with a big chance for Werder as De Bruyne passed forward on a counter attack to Junuzovic, who was unable to hit home - and extend the Green-Whites' lead. Shortly thereafter, Petersen was fouled in the box but Bremen were not awarded the spot kick.
Nilsson equalises
Werder conceded the equaliser in the 62nd minute as Timm Klose's header struck the right post but Nilsson pounced on the rebound to make it 1-1.
Turbulent final stages
Petersen and De Bruyne missed chances in the 63rd and 64th minutes, respectively before Polter headed in a corner to give Nuremberg the lead 2-1 in the 82nd minute. And Pekhart increased the hosts' lead 3-1 in the 88th minute. De Bruyne added a second goal in the 89th minute but it was not enough to get the Green-Whites a point in their final match of the season.
