Werder Bremen lost their home match to start the second half of the Bundesliga, suffering a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. The goals for the strong guests were scored by Marco Reus, Mario Götze, Felipe Santana, Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Blaszczykowski.
Arnautovic out
Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf was forced to play without the suspended Marko Arnautovic and put out a line-up without a true striker. Nils Petersen moved to the right wing and the flexible midfield included Kevin De Bruyne, Aaron Hunt and Eljero Elia - with hopes of sparking the attack.
Early deficit
A crowd of 42,100 spectators saw an intensive and exciting match-up from the start. The Green-Whites started unluckily as they fell behind 1-0 after just nine minutes with German international Reus curling a free kick into the upper left corner from about 20 yards out.

Götze pushes lead to 2-0
Bremen had the chance to equalise just 60 seconds later on a nice pass from Aaron Hunt to Petersen, who missed wide from 16 yards out. Dortmund increased the advantage to 2-0 in the 19th minute with Kevin Großkreutz crossing to Götze, who blasted a shot in from 17 yards. Dortmund were clearly the better team after that point as Werder could find no means against Dortmund, who took the 2-0 advantage into the break.
Santana makes it 3-0
The second half started poorly for Werder as they conceded an early goal just like in the first half. The Bremen defence did not cover Felipe Santana on a corner in the 48th minute and the Dortmund player headed in to make it 3-0.
Bitter goals in final stage
Schaaf reacted to the big deficit and brought on Öskan Yildirim for Sebastian Prödl after 54 minutes. The Green-Whites never gave up and continued to fight. But Dortmund finished off the game by increasing the score to 4-0 with a goal by Lewandowski after an assist from Lukasz Piszczek in the 80th minute. And the guests added a fifth goal by Blaszczykowski on a counter attack in the 83rd minute to finalize Bremen's clear 5-0 loss to Dortmund.
