Werder Bremen travel to the promoted side Greuther Fürth on the ninth game day on Saturday 27 October 2012 at 3:30 p.m. It's a match-up that presents a lot of questions. Can the team from Franconia finally pick up their first points at home this season? Will the match be even nearly as exciting as the first showdown of these teams in 2004? And will Fürth finally have the luck that's promised in their shamrock club logo?
The hosts have collected just one victory and two draws thus far and are 17th on the table. Still, Mike Büskens' team cannot be underestimated after playing to a 3-3 draw at Hoffenheim. Fürth three times came back from a deficit to earn the away point. The Shamrocks displayed dedicated fight, the belief in their own strength and "even a bit of luck," as Büskens said. And Fürth showed that they cannot be written off.

Goalless and pointless on home grounds
But Fürth definitely have not had any luck at their home grounds, as they lost all four home matches against Bayern Munich, FC Schalke 04, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Hamburg. And now come Werder Bremen, a team which finally returned to their winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Fürth and Werder squared off in February 2004 in the German DFB Cup quarter-finals and played a thrilling match. Bremen trailed 2-1 late in the game before Johan Micoud and Ivan Klasnic scored in injury time for a 3-2 victory. Bremen crowned their season a few weeks later with the league-cup double. And the match in Fürth remains an unforgettable fight from one of the most successful times in Werder club history.
Eight years later, Werder Bremen travel to Fürth once again - and would like to win again. But head coach Thomas Schaaf has warned his team against underestimating the promoted Bavarians. "Fürth go about their work with commitment, excitement and will - and that from the first to last minute," said Schaaf. Werder are also warned that the Shamrocks are hoping to force their luck and finally pick up their first points at home. Everything is set for an exciting showdown.
