Werder Bremen put together a strong performance but it was not enough for a victory as Bayern Munich won 2-0 at Weser Stadium on the sixth Bundesliga game day. Luiz Gustavo and Mario Mandzukic both scored in the final nine minutes to give Bayern the win. Werder dropped to eighth place with the defeat as they have seven points.
Two changes
Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf made two changes to his starting line-up with Theo Gebre Selassie and Nils Petersen replacing Dominik Schmitz and Joseph Akpala. A sold-out crowd of 42,100 spectators at Weser Stadium saw a well-organised Werder side give Bayern all they could handle with intensive play and a concentrated performance from the first minute on.
Petersen shoots wide
After an even start to the match, Bayern eventually began to win more control of the contest. But Werder nearly went ahead in the 27th minute as Marko Arnautovic's cross found Petersen at the point but the striker's header sailed just over the crossbar.
Chance for Pizarro
The biggest chance of the first half went to Bayern's Claudio Pizarro in the 43rd minute. The former Werder star out-jumped Sebastian Prödl on Toni Kroos's corner but Pizarro's header flew just wide of the left post. The teams went into the changing rooms still even at 0-0.

Ribery hits post
Bayern came out of the break with a lot of momentum and Bremen were lucky that the score was still 0-0 in the 49th minute. Gebre Selassie lost a ball and Franck Ribery twice got past Clemens Fritz before striking the inside of the post. At the other end though, Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer needed a good save on Kevin De Bruyne's long distance blast.
Petersen shoots wide
Ribery just missed again in the 65th minute as his shot sailed wide. The match went back and forth and the Green-Whites wasted an opportunity after 67 minutes as Petersen could not find the goal from 11 yards out and Arnautovic's volley attempt was just off target in the 70th minute.
Double strike for Bayern
Bayern shocked the Weser Stadium crowd with just nine minutes remaining by taking a 1-0 lead. Thomas Müller passed to Luiz Gustavo, whose long distance shot found the back of the net. Mandzukic made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute with a perfectly executed counter attack, with Ribery feeding the Croatian the ball. Werder keeper Sebastian Mielitz didn't have a chance and Werder lost 2-0.
