Head coach Thomas Schaaf was still very satisfied with his team's week of training at the official press conference Thursday afternoon. But the Werder boss's spirits were not as high after the afternoon training session. Kevin De Bruyne remained on the ground after a challenge with Mateo Pavlovic, needed to be treated and had to leave the practice session shortly thereafter.

"I got hit on my right thigh in two straight situations. Both times it was at the same spot and it's very painful," said the Belgian international. The midfielder may miss the important away match at Bayer Leverkusen (Saturday, 27 April 2013 at 3:30 p.m.).

It was an unlucky end of an intensive week for Schaaf, SV Werder and the loaned player from Chelsea. "We focused very much on our work and were looking for the keys. We can only change the situation through what we show on the pitch. The foundation must be laid in training. We went after that and really dealt with every area intensively with one another," said the coach.

The bitter end of Thursday’s training: Kevin De Bruyne limps off the pitch.

The week included a team evening as well as a team building measure. "We needed to make clear that we can only get out of this situation together and the team must play more as a team and cope with the tasks together," said Schaaf ahead of the match in Leverkusen.

In addition to long-term injured players Raphael Wolf and Tom Trybull, Mehmet Ekici and Florian Hartherz will not be able to help at BayArena. "Neither of them will be available to us," said Schaaf. Joseph Akpala will also not be on hand. "He may have returned to training this week but he's not an option for the game squad," said the 51-year-old coach. Aleksandar Ignjovski, on the other hand, should not have a problem after the Serbian returned to training on Tuesday after a hardened thigh muscle.
