Werder Bremen lost their small North Derby showdown with Hannover 3-2 despite a superb showing on the third game day of the Bundesliga. Szabolcs Huszti scored two goals and Leon Andreasen struck once for Hannover while Aaron Hunt converted a penalty and Kevin De Bruyne added a goal as well.
Two changes
Head coach Thomas Schaaf made two changes to his line-up as Assani Lukimya replaced Sebastian Prödl and Philipp Bargfrede filled in for the sick Zlatko Junuzovic.
Early goals
Werder had a horrible start to the game in front of 49,000 spectators at AWD Arena, falling behind 2-0 after just 10 minutes. Hannover grabbed the lead after just six minutes on a set piece by Hustzi, who curled his free kick over the wall and past Green-Whites keeper Sebastian Mielitz. The advantage was 2-0 just four minutes later as Huszti sent a cross from the left wing to Andreasen, who headed in from six yards out.

Hunt scores
Bremen pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 in the 26th minute from the spot after Mario Eggimann handled the ball in the box. Hunt converted with a left foot shot into the upper right corner after he missed and made a penalty in Bremen's last game against Hamburg. The 2-1 deficit was the score at the break.
Deserved equaliser
Bremen were the better team coming out of the changing rooms and grabbed their equaliser 2-2 after 74 minutes as Eljero Elia fed De Bruyne, who struck home from 11 yards out. The Green-Whites were disallowed goals in the 82nd and 83rd minutes as Sokratis was ruled offside and then having committed a foul, respectively. And Hannover keeper Ron Robert Zieler made a superb save on Marko Arnautovic's shot in the 86th minute.
Late winner
It appeared that the game would end in a 2-2 draw, Huszti struck again on a counter attack with a side volley shot off a cross from Konstantin Rauch two minutes into injury time for a 3-2 victory. The goal sent Werder and their fans into a shock.
