Werder Bremen's next match on Sunday 2 October 2011 at 3:30 p.m. at Hannover will be against a team which not only was a surprise in the Bundesliga last season but has provided furore this season in the Europa League. In the qualification they knocked out FC Sevilla and they set in second place in Group B with four points following a 0-0 draw at home against Standard Liege and a 2-1 away victory on Thursday against Ukrainian side Worskla Poltava.

Hannover laid the foundation for their romp through Europe last season when they had their best Bundesliga season in history with 60 points and fourth place. Just as impressive is how Hannover have continued their unexpected success this season with just one defeat in 12 competitive matches for Mirko Slomka's team.
One of the true cornerstones is the 21-year-old goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, who was trained at Cologne and Manchester United and quickly became the top keeper at Hannover after his transfer. He has also been nominated into the German national team by head coach Joachim Löw. Hannover have earned the reputation for pushing the ball extremely quickly from defence to attack, where they have some very dangerous offensive players in Jan Schlaudraff, Mohamed Abdellaoue and Didier Ya Konan. It remains to be seen how Hannover can deal with the triple burden of the Bundesliga, Europa League and the German Cup. But it's clear that Hannover will be a very difficult opponent on Sunday for Werder Bremen.
