The final game day of the season is nearing, but the Bundesliga season is far from over. There are still two matches remaining and both Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen, who face off on Saturday 28 April 2012 at 3:30 p.m. in Wolfsburg, have yet to give up hopes for a strong finish to the season.
Wolfsburg need to make up four points, Werder three
Wolfsburg are currently four points from seventh place, which means the qualification for international play. Werder meanwhile are one point closer to a Europa League spot. "The games in the Champions League during the week showed that every team still has a chance," said Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath. "We also still have a chance to reach the Europa League. But we do not have things in our own hands." The Wolves had played their way close to international action at the end of March after four straight victories by the 28th game day. But Wolfsburg have slumped to just one point in their last four matches.

If Hannover lose in Leverkusen, only the winner between Wolfsburg and Werder have a chance to reach seventh place. Werder coach Thomas Schaaf doesn't want to talk about such calculations. "I like to talk only about things that are current. The Europa League is a final result. The only important things are current ones. The better we work through our daily business the better our chances are," said Schaaf. The comment by Wolfsburg midfielder Jan Polak on the club's official home page seems representative for both teams. "We just have to make sure that we win the next game. It doesn't make any sense talking about anything else until then," said Polak.
Wolfsburg's downfall after four straight wins
One day ahead of the showdown with Werder, Wolfsburg hit the transfer market for next season and announced the addition of Ivica Olic from Bayern Munich. On the current squad, striker Patrick Helmes has played an important role of late with seven goals in eight appearances since February. But Helmes is questionable against Werder. With Mario Mandzukic, the Wolves have another attacker that the Werder defence must watch out for. "I expect an opponent who will want to have a strong showing in their last games and will really challenge us," said Schaaf. Should Werder beat Wolfsburg, manager Klaus Allofs is confident of overcoming the final hurdle as well. "Of course we believe in the Europa League. But we will probably need six points," said Allofs.
