Werder Bremen once again struggled and lost their final home game of the 2011-12 Bundesliga season, losing 3-2 on the 34th game day against Schalke. Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored two goals and Julian Draxler also scored for Schalke while Claudio Pizarro scored two goals for the Green-Whites.
Two changes
Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf made two changes to his starting line-up with Sebastian Prödl replacing Naldo and Tim Borowski coming in for Aleksander Stevanovic. The 42,100 spectators at Weser Stadium saw a beginning which lacked in highlights.
Draxler scores
Werder especially struggled offensively and conceded the first goal after 30 minutes as Schalke went ahead 1-0 as Draxler was played free after some passing with Huntelaar and then beat Werder keeper Tim Wiese from 18 yards into the right corner.

Pizarro equalises
Wiese kept Werder in the game with a fine stop again Huntelaar in the 36th minute and then Pizarro converted a penalty in the 41st minute to make it 1-1 after Aaron Hunt had been taken down in the box. Werder were better after that point and had a fine chance before the break as the teams went into the changing rooms even at 1-1.
Arnautovic subbed in
Schaaf reacted at the break to his team's poor showing and brought on Marko Arnautovic for Borowski. But Werder struggled to find their offensive game.
Brace for Huntelaar, Pizarro pulls goal back
Schalke remained the more dangerous team and used the counter attack to take the lead in the 65th minute with Huntelaar beating Wiese. And the Dutchman scored again in the 75th minute to secure the goal scoring title. Pizarro was able to pull a goal back and make it 3-2 in the 82nd minute. But the Green-Whites could not muster any more offense.
