Werder Bremen lost their away match against Wolfsburg 3-1 on the 33rd game day of the German Bundelsiga and now have slim chances of reaching the UEFA Europa League for next season. Going into the final match at home against Stuttgart, Werder trail seventh placed Hannover by three points for the last international spot. Markus Rosenberg scored to equalise Hasan Salihamidzic's goal but Patrik Helmes scored two goals to give Wolfsburg the victory.
Two changes
Head coach Thomas Schaaf made two changes to his line-up with Sokratis and Clemens Fritz returning from their suspensions to replace Francois Affolter and Florian Trinks.
Wiese with superb saves
Werder keeper Tim Wiese kept his team in the game with two great saves in the first minute of action as Mario Mandzukic took advantage of a poor pass by Lukas Schmitz but could not beat Wiese, who also stopped an attempt by Helmes.

Salihamidzic scores
The game at Volkswagen Arena went back and forth as Rosenberg and Claudio Pizarro could not use their chances. And Salihamidzic gave Wolfsburg the lead 1-0 in 40th minute, collecting a pass from Helmes and beating Wiese from 22 yards out.
Rosenberg evens the game
Rosenberg equalised 1-1 in the 45th minute as a free kick went to Tom Trybull for a header back to the far right post where the Swede striker headed in from three yards out. And the game was deadlocked 1-1 at the break.
Two goals by Helmes
Werder were unable to come up with a strong showing in the second half as Wolfsburg had a number of good scoring opportunities. Naldo did a good job to save the beaten Wiese but the defender allowed Helmes to get behind him and the rest of the defence in the 66th minute and the Wolfsburg striker made it 2-1. Helmes struck again a minute before the final whistle with his second goal to make it 3-1, striking into the lower corner as Bremen suffered the loss.
