Werder Bremen saw their two-game winning streak snapped with a bitter 5-0 loss at Borussia Mönchengladbach on the 13th game day of the Bundesliga. Thomas Schaaf's team failed to score while Marcus Reus a hat-trick and Patrick Herrmann and Juan Arango each scored one goal. Bremen finished the game with just 10 players as Sokratis was shown his second warning in the second half.

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf made two changes to his line-up with Andreas Wolf and Philipp Bargfred replacing Naldo and Lukas Schmitz while Aleksandar Ignjovski moved to the leftback position. Both teams had chances before Gladbach took the lead after 16 minutes with Arango crossing to Herrmann for a header inside the near left post to make it 1-0. The Green-Whites fell behind for the 10th time this season in the Bundesliga. The hosts continued to push forward and made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute after a strong solo through the Werder defence by Reus, who in the end beat Bremen keeper Tim Wiese into the lower left corner.
Reus scores again
The Green-Whites fell behind 3-0 in the 39th minute on a counter attack with Herrmann playing over to Reus, who chipped in for his second goal - the third straight game that he has scored two goals. And Gladbach led 3-0 at halftime.
Schaaf reacted at the break and brought on Schmitz for Mehmet Ekici. But the move did not help as Reus scored a third goal in the 51st minute to make it 4-0 after Wiese stopped Mike Hanke's shot but into the path of Reus. The deficit was 5-0 after 53 minutes after Wiese stopped Herrmann's shot into the path of Arango for a long left footed blast. Bremen saw Sokratis get sent off with 14 minutes left with a second warning.
