Werder Bremen played to only a 1-1 draw at promoted side Augsburg and had to be satisfied with one point on the 10th game day of the Bundesliga. Claudio Pizarro scored the equaliser for Werder after Axel Bellinghausen had scored for the hosts.

Wiese in goal

Head coach Thomas Schaaf made two changes to his starting formation with Tim Wiese back in goal for Sebastian Mielitz and Aleksandar Ignjovski replacing Philipp Bargfrede in the defensive midfield. Werder took over the proceedings from the first minute in Augsburg and dominated play while the hosts remained compact defensively and waited for counter attacks. Despite controlling the run of play, the Green-Whites could not score in the first half despite Markus Rosenberg hitting the crossbar in the 21st minute and an excellent scoring chance by Aaron Hunt with the teams heading to changing rooms with the score 0-0.

Bellinghausen scores

Werder had a bad start to the second half as Andreas Wolf lost the ball easily to Sascha Mölders, who immediately fed Bellinghausen and the Augsburg attacker left Wiese no chance with a score from 12 yards out for a 1-0 lead after 49 minutes. Werder needed some time to get over the shock of the Augsburg goal, but eventually pushed forward looking for equaliser.

Pizarro equalises

The Green-Whites equalised the game after 68 minutes with Pizarro scoring another important goal, hitting in the area off a corner to make it 1-1. Bremen were determined to get the victory but chances by Pizarro, Rosenberg and Sandro Wagner went unused and Werder could collect only one point with a 1-1 draw at Augsburg.
