For a team whose pre-season goal was actually to secure a spot in the league next season as early as possible, 22 points from the first half of the season was definitely more than satisfying. But sixth-placed Nuremberg are now hovering in an entirely different sphere as Werder Bremen hope to survive against a European candidate on Saturday 19 March 2011 at 3:30 p.m.

Nuremberg top scorer Julian Schieber is out against Werder.

Well-balanced, stable, confident - "Using your head and a bit of luck"

It's not just that Nuremberg are slowly moving toward the top five in the Bundesliga table - they are even picking up points right now when things are not going well, just like a clever top level side. "They also have the patience to wait for results and can go for it all the way until the end," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf. The evidence of that came last weekend in their 2-1 victory in Wolfsburg. They put together very little offensive action and had very few chances. But they picked up three points by "using their head and a bit of luck" according to the game analysis from fcn.de. "They are very well-balanced, seem stable and play with confidence," added Werder manager Klaus Allofs.

Klaus Allofs: "The job is far from done."

Schaaf spoke about a "good and mainly concentrated and motivated mood" on the Green-Whites training grounds - also a bit of spill over after unluckily giving away a home victory in their last-second draw against Mönchengladbach. "That goal really made us angry - and that has lingered," said the 49-year-old coach. "But there were also some positives. For example that we played at a much better level." Allofs meanwhile recognised the good development of the team as a unit in light of the challenges of the coming weeks. "The great trouble has eased off a bit, but we are not in danger of underestimating the situation. The job is far from done," said Allofs.
