Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf made four changes from last week with Arnautovic, Predrag Stevanovic, Dominik Schmidt and Florian Trinks starting in place of Claudio Pizarro, Sandro Wagner, Per Mertesacker and Mikael Silvestre. And Schaaf had just four players on the bench as reserves.
The Green-Whites fell behind after just seven minutes as Nemec headed home Leon Jessen's cross from the left side for a 1-0 lead for Lautern. The hosts doubled the advantage just two minutes later with Rodnei heading in Christian Tiffert's free kick from the right side for a 2-0 cushion. Bremen had more possession but watched as Lautern pushed the lead to 3-0 at the half-hour mark with Pierre De Wit playing a through ball to Lakic, who poked past Bremen keeper Tim Wiese. Bremen pulled a goal back after 43 minutes with Marko Marin feeding Frings, whose left-footer beat Lautern keeper Kevin Trapp off the left post and in for a 3-1 score-line, which was the score at the break.
Bremen were awarded a penalty after 52 minutes but Frings's spot kick was blocked by Trapp. The Green-Whites cut the margin to 3-2 in the 55th minute with Marin's pass forward going to Arnautovic, who eased the ball in after Trapp was unable to clear the dangerous ball. Arnautovic nearly equalised after 67 minutes but hammered his blast off the crossbar. Lautern remained determined to score but Clemens Walch shot just wide right with 10 minutes left. Bremen could not come back and equalise and finished the season with 41 points for 13th place.
