SV Werder have started the next stage of their season preparations, leaving Sunday afternoon for their training camp in Zillertal. The Green-Whites took Lufthansa flight LH 2111 from Bremen to Munich from where they took the team bus to Zillertal. Marko Arnautovic and new acquisition Luca Caldirola joined the team at the airport in Munich. Sebastian Prödl was waiting in Zillertal for his teammates to arrive.
After the successful week on Norderney, head coach Robin Dutt was looking forward to the Alps. "I have already been to Zillertal with Bayer Leverkusen, in the same hotel and on the same pitch. So I know my way around there. The conditions on site are superb," said Dutt.
While the coach had to make do without his international players on the North Sea island, the entire squad will be available in Zillertal with the exception of the injured Philipp Bargfrede and Denni Avdic. "Now we can step things up in regards to team and group tactics," said the Bremen coach.
"The internationals may be coming to training a week later, but they played and trained longer. You can also say that the other players caught up to that on Norderney. You will see that in two or three days," said Dutt. The coach is looking forward to meeting the players who were not on Norderney. "It wasn't that bad that we were a smaller group. This way, I had the chance to have individual talks and got to know them better. In Zillertal I can worry about the talks with the others more."
Not on hand will be Bargfrede and Avdic. While Avdic is rehabbing in Sweden, Bargfrede has been back in Bremen since Friday and will start his rehab training on Monday in the Rehazentrum Bremen. "The knee looks a lot better again," said team doctor Götz Dimanski. "We hope that the healing process goes as well as it did for Raphael Wolf and Niclas Füllkrug."
This is the squad of players in Zillertal: Mielitz, Wolf, Strebinger, Otremba - Caldirola, Pavlovic, Lukimya, Makiadi, Arnautovic, Fritz, Ekici, Elia, Schmitz, Hunt, Prödl, Junuzovic, Ignjovski, Kroos, Gebre Selassie, Petersen, Trybull, Hartherz, Wurtz, Aycicek, Röcker, Yildirim, Stevanovic, Füllkrug.
