Özkan Yildirim will be wearing the Werder jersey beyond this season as the 20-year-old, who celebrated his Bundesliga debut this past season, extended his expiring contract with the Green-Whites until 30 June 2016.

"After a long injury break at the start of his professional career, Özkan developed really well in the second half of the season and especially showed in the last couple weeks what kind of potential he has. We are really happy to continue to accompany his development and are very proud to have kept a true Bremen talent with SV Werder," said manager Thomas Eichin.

Yildirim, who missed the first half of the 2012-13 campaign with a knee injury, was happy about the new contract. "I am very happy that everything is certain now. I am looking forward to the coming work and hope that everything goes better for us next season," said the offensive midfielder. Yildirim transferred to SV Werder's U11 team in 2003 and worked his way through the Green-Whites youth system. In the summer of 2011, he signed his first professional contract with SVW but had to wait nearly 18 months to really start his senior career after a serious knee injury.
