Thursday morning was not a normal day for Özkan Yildirim. After a lengthy absence, the 21-year-old finally took to the Weser Stadium training grounds for the first time in 10 months. "It's nice to be here again," said Yildirim.
Yildirim has been working hard the past weeks and months in Regensburg on his comeback from a serious groin injury. "I really worked well there and now I feel that much better," said the German-Turk after the first one-hour session, during which he went through minor drills with the ball. But it will still take a while before he can return in full to team training. For now he has to continue to work on his rehab in the coming weeks. "Everything step by step," Yildirim said. "I don't want to push anything."
"I definitely want to play in the Bundesliga again this season," the playmaker said about his goal for this season. Until he can play again with his teammates, he will continue to support them as a spectator. "I am really looking forward to Sunday and the match against Hertha Berlin. Of course I would like to be playing myself but I definitely will cross my fingers for the guys in the stadium," said Yildirim.
