Games, games and more games: Johannes Wurtz is one of three Werder players with whom the main goal from Bremen's point of view was to get plenty of match practice with an ambitious team with the plan of working on getting a role with SV Werder starting in the summer. While Niclas Füllkrug has turned into a regular with Greuther Fürth (more in this interview on WERDER.DE) and Mateo Pavlovic moved to Ferencvaros Budapest and coach Thomas Doll in February for nearly five months, Wurtz is going through a sporting valley with SC Paderborn after a strong first half.

Wurtz's personal football highlight came on of all days a Friday the 13th. The Saarland native scored the game winning goal in the 74th minute in a big December victory over Kaiserslautern in front of his family. It was also Paderborn's first goal in Kaiserslautern. "Of course it's tremendous to win in front of this crowd at the Betzenberg. It's just great that I scored the winning goal," said the 21-year-old directly after the match.

While Wurtz worked his way into the starting line-up in the first half, knee problems caused him problems during the winter break. He lost his spot in the starting line-up and hasn't been more than a reserve thus far in 2014. "I have to see to it that I play better in training and start a few games again. But I think that I did quite a few good things with the loan," said Wurtz looking back.

Helping in a quick and solid integration into the Paderborn team was Florian Hartherz. Wurtz has a "really good relationship" with the former Werder leftback, who is Wurtz's room-mate on road trips. The pair tries as often as possible to watch the Werder matches on TV. "I watch every Werder match. Every time I watch Werder I think it would be nice to be on the pitch there with the guys."

The striker's loan deal runs until 30 June, after which he is due to return to Bremen. "I don't know yet what will happen in the summer. If I could be a Bremen regular that would be great. If I could become a top player in the second division, that would be good too. I will decide in a couple of months which way I have to go," said Wurtz.
