Defender Andreas Wolf will no longer be playing for SV Werder Bremen as he transferred with immediate effect to French second division side AS Monaco as Werder manager Klaus Allofs confirmed Monday afternoon. The 29-year-old centre back had just come to the Green-Whites in summer 2011 without a transfer fee from Nuremberg, signing on a two-year contract, which has been voided. Wolf has agreed to a contract for the next three and a half years.

"We have always said that we will sit down together when a player has received a lucrative offer that also makes sense economically for SV Werder. That has happened in this case. Andreas Wolf came to us and asked us to think about the offer from AS Monaco. We accepted his request. The transfer happened before the transfer deadline because he was unable to play against Bayer Leverkusen due to a calf injury," said Allofs, who added that due to the injury to Sebastian Prödl Werder Bremen themselves may be active on the transfer market in the coming days.

Wolf expressed his gratitude to his teammates and all employees with SV Werder through WERDER.TV. "Werder was a short stop but I felt very welcome here. The people working here are very open and honest and there is always a trustworthy working atmosphere. I would like to thank them that they made this transfer possible. I can sign a very long-term deal in Monaco. At this stage of my career, I have to think about the security of my family," said Wolf.

Wolf, who was born in Tajikistan, appeared in 15 Bundesliga matches and one German DFB Cup contest in the first half of the season
